Lip Color 101: What You Need to Know About Each Finish

Lip Color 101: What You Need to Know About Each Finish

Whether you’re a streamlined minimalist or sport a powerful pout 24/7, everyone loves lipstick. One of the most widely sought after products in the beauty industry, lipstick can be a difficult purchase at times and start to feel overwhelming. Not only is it important to know what colors look best, it is also imperative to know what finishes work – or don’t work – according to your specific taste. Here’s a little lesson in lip color 101 and what you need to know about each finish:
Matte
Matte texture lipsticks are almost always a long-wear product.  A matte finish is smooth and almost appears like velvet on the lips. Popular shades in matte lipsticks tend to be of stronger pigment such as reds, pinks, and oxblood colors. One of the most important things to remember about matte texture is that over time, it can become drying. Using a lip balm prior to application will help keep your lips hydrated for long lasting results.

Creamy
Creamy textured lipsticks give you a little more shine than a matte formula and are considered one of the richest textures in lipsticks. With creamy finish lipsticks, you will normally have a long wear finish but the lips won’t become too dry throughout the day. The most important thing to remember about creamy textures is that sometimes they can bleed into the lip lines. To prevent any bleeding and hold the shape without looking too noticeable, use a lip liner of a similar color to blend with the lip color.

Satin
Satin anything feels incredible to the touch, and with this particular finish you will find that your lips stay hydrated and maintain a delicate sheen. One of the most versatile finishes in lipsticks, you can wear light and natural tones as well as ones with more color seamlessly. Satin finishes are perfect for women who want a little color and shine without drawing too much attention to their lips.
