Tuesday Tutorial: Double Decker Eyeliner

Tuesday Tutorial: Double Decker Eyeliner

Just when you thought we had run out of eyeliner looks, we come up with a new way to wear one of our favorite color cosmetics. Double decker eyeliner: it’s an edgy look that we like to whip out when we’re in the mood for double trouble. Take a peek at how LA-based makeup artist Emma Willis helped us craft this two-story twist on winged eyeliner. And don’t worry, we’ll never run out of ways to wear eyeliner.

  1. The liner will be statement-making enough without a lot of eyeshadow, so stick with just a light wash of a neutral shade across the lid.
  2. Start the liner close to the lash line, and then build out your wing as much as you please. We used Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Radium. Tilt your head back slightly and look down when applying liquid eyeliner to the upper lash line. This will help prevent the color from smearing. And if you’re using a wet formula, allow it to dry for a few minutes before moving on to the lower wing.
  3. Contrast the color of the top wing by using black on the bottom. Use an angled eyeliner brush with a cream formula, like the Yves Saint Laurent Effet Faux Cils Long-Wear Cream Eyeliner in Deep Black, to line the entire waterline from corner to corner.
  4. Then continue to define the lower lash line and extend the liner out into a wing. The key is to mirror the angle of the top wing so lines are parallel. Have pointed q-tips handy, they’re great for touching up small mistakes.
